My football year was kind of disappointing. This is the first year in about 10 years that I didn’t play fantasy football. This was for a couple of reasons. One, even though I know there are free leagues out there, the one I normally play in has an entry fee and we’ve been broke ever since my wife has gone on maternity leave. Two, I just haven’t had the time since Baby E has been born.
As far as my teams go, it’s also been a disappointing year. Let’s start with my Buckeyes. It’s kind of hard to call an undefeated season disappointing, but because of the NCAA penalties, nothing can come of their undefeated season. I’m not going to say that they don’t deserve the penalty, because they do, but it’s still frustrating. After the National Championship game, the Buckeyes may be the only undefeated team in the country and they won’t have anything to show for it. @#$% you, Jim Tressel. @#$% you.
The Panthers, on the other hand, actually had a better record this year than they did last year (6-10 in 2011 and 7-9 in 2012), but the reason I consider their season disappointing is that they easily could’ve been 10-6 instead of 7-9. In at least 3 of their games, they held the lead with less than 5 minutes left to go in the game and they ended up losing. Cam Newton, who had an amazing rookie season, took a step backwards this season, although he did start looking pretty good towards the end of the season. They just need to be able to start putting games away when they have the lead and they’ll be able to go pretty far.
Well, I hope that your teams had good seasons, unless you root for the Patriots, then I hope your team loses every game from now until the end of time. Enjoy the bowl games and the playoffs everyone!
