Which is stronger?

The word, because the knife can also deliver the release from pain that is death. Words wound deeply as well but force the victim to live… and re-live.
Thank you for the perspective, and I agree. I remember during one of ex and my fights, his anger was increasing. There was a knife, next to him, on the counter. I looked at it and he said, “Don’t worry, I will never HURT you.” So, I was curious.
I’m sure his words still cut. I’m sorry on behalf of this 50% of our species.
There are good and bad in both. A girl I know calls her guy a POS. Nothing says “I love you” like feces, no?
When it first started, it hurt. Then, indifference kicked in and I would say, “I know…what’s next?”

ummm… knife is a word… right?
Yes, knife is a knife, too.
And word is a word… oh the irony.
Wow!! You hit the nail on the head! If I had to choose, I would say word. This is so good!
Thank you and me too. So many people think words don’t hurt. I know someone who nonchalantly throws “insults of endearment” and thinks it’s harmless.
Joking “insults” are still abuse. My father said in the form of a “joke” that he should stick my mothers head in the tub under the water to make it all go away. In other words her illness at the time was cramping his style so he should drown her to make it all go away. I wish people could get how much words hurt.
Clever post. Well done. I think both can be equally crippling, but words are a more silent and deadly weapon and less noticeable to the outside world.
Thank you, Tric. I agree. When i was growing up, the saying was Sticks and stones, break bones, but names can never hurt…liar…lol.
Powerful poem, Jaded. (words can hurt like hell….)
Agree with the comments that words hurt a lot more.
Sure, a knife will leave a visible scar, but while it’s healing and when it is healed, if it’s in a visible place, people know that there was a wound. You don’t get that with words. They sometimes just stay and fester, and go round and round in your head until you believe them…
