Too Late

Image via ingenesist.com

When I look in the rearview
I see us standing there
Emotions running wild
Tempers aflare

A chalk silhouette
Is all that remains
Of the love we shared
Died amid flames

It’s too late now
Too much time passed
Two different people
Our differences vast

You go your way
And I’ll go mine
Our fate’s no longer
Intertwined

You say you’re sorry
You made a mistake
These admissions
I can no longer take

You say you now know
I’m the love of your life
Too bad you never knew this
When you were my wife

It’s too late now
Too much time passed
Two different people
Our differences vast

You go your way
And I’ll go mine
Our fate’s no longer
Intertwined

My heart’s been broken
Too many times
Unable to see past
Unforgivable crimes

Keep your words
Keep your feelings
They collapse upon me
Like falling ceilings

It’s too late now
Too much time passed
Two different people
Our differences vast

You go your way
And I’ll go mine
Our fate’s no longer
Intertwined

The ship has sailed
My heart its haul
There is no return
No port to call

I’m sorry things ended
In such disarray
But I’m looking forward
To a brand new day

  8. I’m so sorry that it has to be, but I absolutely love how beautifully you’ve written it. I can also relate to the sadness of truth you’ve expressed. But, I am so glad that you ended it on a positive note of knowing there are more beautiful days ahead. :)
