Caughtcha

I wasn’t even looking.

I asked myself if I should play
this most dangerous game.
Pinching the flame
knowing that the potential
to be burned still exists but
only slightly now.

Think I will.

My intuition aroused
my suspicion.
Your subtle charm shrouded
your act of harm.
I cupped hands over ears
refused to hear.
Lalala.

My eyes weren’t as lucky.
Exchanges unkind
etched into my mind.
What could have been a
sucker-punch was merely
a glancing blow.
My gut laughed and mocked with
“Told you so.”

My probing questions met
evasion, deception and omission.
Didn’t deny or lie
but explanation didn’t satisfy.
Investigation brought confirmation
and momentary hurt.
Then release.

Translucency replaced by transparency.
Opacity replaced by lucidity.
Your word haze replaced by a clarity
that no longer fogs
up the glass.

Muah.

  2. “Word haze”…great vision of another term we often use…. perhaps “b.s.”? Sounds like you see something for what it really is. That’s a good thing. Sorry the truth of it wasn’t so good. :(

  4. That is many shades of wonderful. Great rhythm, slightly ominous, very forceful, and just a great poem.
